Public life:
He is a priest. He is a god fearing man. He has a lot faith in his religion and God. When things go wrong he goes and pray. Despite what he is going through in with Absalom and Gertrude, he doesn't give up hope.
Private life:
He is caring- Despite the hardship his been through he still cares for his family. Although his son and sister have gone astray, he still helps them and supports them. He does not judge people and look for the good in them.
People's perception:
Understanding- He understands the ways of the people of Johannesburg. He respects the people and what is happening (apartheid).
